Wii U exclusives fail to crack UK sales chart Top 40 for third straight week

It's the start of a new year, but that hasn't helped the Wii U which, for the third week in a row, no had no exclusive titles make an appearance in the top 40 spots of UK game sales. The latest sales charts from GfK Chart-Track, the first UK games chart of 2013, proved no different then last year which also showed disappointing sales for Wii U games.

Instead, it was more of the same. FIFA 13, Far Cry 3, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 led all software in sales for the week ending January 5, 2013. For FIFA 13, it's the game's 15th straight week in one of the top four spots. Meanwhile, Ubisoft's Far Cry 3 which ended 2012 at number one dropped one spot. Black Ops 2 remained third, followed by Hitman Absolution and Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

For Wii U-exclusive titles, however, things are looking grim. The last time a Wii U-only game made the top 40 list was the week ending December 15, 2012; it was Nintendo Land placing at a modest 39th. For many Wii U-exclusive titles, the high point came during the console's launch. During that week we saw Nintendo Land at 11th and New Super Mario Bros. U at 14th.

Despite the struggles of exclusive Wii U games, it's important to note that there are Wii U versions of the best-selling games. However, those sales are hardly contributing to the overall success of the game. According to reports, just 1% of Black Ops 2 cpies sold this week were for the Wii U and Chart-Track shockingly revealed that none of the Just Dance 4 sales were on the Wii U.

Just last week, analysts in the U.S. were disappointed with the Wii U's sales at retail giant, GameStop. Despite its impressive launch week, sales have appeared to slow considerably. Not good news for Nintendo.
