Wii U games fail to break top 10 in UK sales charts in debut

You would think the launch of a new console (the Wii) would result in a few of the platform's exclusive titles cracking the top of the UK sales charts. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for the week ending December 1, 2012. Granted the Wii U became available on November 30, meaning there's a good chance some of these titles will creep into the top 10 in the coming week. For now though, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 remains the best-selling game in the UK.

According to GfK Chart-Track, the best-selling Wii U title was Nintendo Land in the 11th spot. The next best-selling Wii U title was New Super Mario Bros. U (14th), yet another 1st party title.

Ubisoft can claim the most success out of all the Wii U's 3rd party publishers, of which there are a total of 11 for the Wii U. ZombiU was by far the best performing game out of the bunch. Exact numbers weren't release, but it did place 17th on the chart. It's also important to know that ZombiU was sold both individually ad as part of the PRemium 32GB ZombiU Pack. It's said that ZombiU accounted for 30% of Wii U hardware for week 1.

While the numbers appear pedestrian for Wii U software, Nintendo maintains the console has enjoyed a software attach rate in excess of 2:1. It's also important to remember that this is just two days worth of sales numbers; it'll be interesting to see how consumers react in the coming weeks to the Wii U. In the United States, it sold a total 400,000 units during its launch week, but was hampered due to supply shortages.

As for other titles,Ubisoft's Far Cry 3 made its grand debut, placing second in the charts – just behind Black Ops 2FIFA 13 stayed in 3rd while Hitman: Absolution dropped from 2nd to 4th. Assassin's Creed 3 dropped a spot to round out the top five. Below is the top 10 sales in the UK for the week ending December 1, 2012.

  1. CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS II
  2. FAR CRY 3
  3. FIFA 13
  4. HITMAN ABSOLUTION
  5. ASSASSIN'S CREED III
  6. JUST DANCE 4
