Wii U patent shows off interactive tablet, Wiimote functionality

A patent that was seemingly filed several months ago by Nintendo has just surfaced on the good ol' internet. The patent indicates functionality for the Wii U that we haven't really seen before.

Judging from the patent image, players would be able to use the Wii Remote to grab items displayed on the TV screen and drag them over to the tablet controller. In one of the images (which you can see below), the player character is being attacked by a UFO. The image illustrates the player removing the character from the TV screen and dropping it safely into the Wii U tablet's screen.

It's a neat feature, no doubt, but whether it will actually be a thing remains to be seen. It's hard to think of different ways that developers can use this type of function for games, but then again, I'm not a developer, so what the heck would I know? I would love to see studios tinkering around with the Wii U tech to create compelling and unique experiences, but we'll have to wait and see what features the system has, and what features devs will want to take advantage of.

We're going to learn more about the Wii U come E3. Here's hoping Nintendo gives some insight on features like this and other innovative functions that the console can hopefully provide for gamers and developers.
