Last year at Gamescom, Michel Ancel (creator of the Rayman series and Beyond Good & Evil for Ubisoft), revealed a new game he and a number of other members of his former Ubisoft Montpellier development team were working on at his new startup, Wild Sheep. It's called WiLD and it looks like one of the PlayStation 4's most unique games yet.
Although WiLD takes us to what's now a trendy pre-historic setting (Far Cry: Primal, Horizon Zero Dawn), it's the mechanics of the game that make this so special. At Sony's Paris Games Week press conference, Ancel himself took the stage to show off the breathtaking world of WiLD.
In the game, you play as a Shaman with the power to take control of animals, each with their own special skills and abilities to help you survive "this harsh environment." In the gameplay demo above, you can see how Ancel takes control of an eagle, rabbit, flock of crows, and even rides a bear — all to infiltrate an enemy tribe's camp in search of a deity to help cure a poisoned member of your tribe. It's all incredibly impressive, and I highly suggest you watch the gameplay trailer above.
As Ancel explained all the way back at Gamescom 2014:
"When we started working on WiLD we wanted to make sure that we would have fun playing our own game even after months and months of development! This is the reason why the world of WiLD is the size of Europe, with dynamic weather and seasons, and filled with interactive opportunities that feel endless.
Every time you play you’ll discover new things, even in the same place as before. But… the best feature came from our prototyping phase when we started playing as wolves, horses, sheep and… even trout! So we decided that in WiLD every creature should be playable, even the giant and dangerous ones!"
WiLD will be release exclusively on PlayStation 4.
