Wild West Online MMO Gets Completely Funded By Investors After It Was Confused For Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 has been on the minds of many Rockstar fans for a while now. With rumors and hints popping up everywhere, It's no surprise that some people might assume anything with a Wild West motif would be Red Dead Redemption 2, but this confusion actually helped developer 612 gather additional funding from their investors for a game previously unknown to many.

Last week, we saw images of what seemed to be Red Dead Redemption 2, but it turned out to be a completely different game. The game is actually a PC MMO called Wild West Online. The developers of the game openly acknowledge their inspiration from Red Dead Redemption but what followed was not expected. Now the team won't have to fund it through Kickstarter or use Steam Early Access.

612 Games states that the response to their reveal was "overwhelming" and that they received "thousands of emails and over 200,000 site visits."

Speaking with PC Gamer, vice president of publisher DJ2, Stephan Bugaj responded.

“The community’s response to Wild West Online is something we never imagined and thanks to it we’re able to fully develop a robust Western experience for PC.We’ve been fortunate enough to have our initial investors step up and provide additional funding to make the game we wanted, without having to raise money via crowdfunding. Westerns are lacking on PC so we can’t wait to release the game to the public.”

The game previously had stretch goals for its Kickstarter campaign that will now be standard in the game, which includes playable female characters. “In addition, Wild West Online will now release with its previous stretch goals in place at launch, including female characters, rich role-playing and social activities such as card games, and localization," Bugaj said.

Post launch content and features are also being planned. More information on the game is expected in the future, but it's pretty clear now that it will have no problem releasing.
