After the Rocket League developers stepped up to say that they had the technology to allow PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players to play together and could do so within "hours," other developers have come out to mention that they have the power as well.
The Witcher developers, CD Projekt Red, mentioned that they would want to implement cross-platform play in the past, if Sony allowed it of course. Recently, CD Projekt Red stated that they have the technology and are waiting
"We are keeping our fingers crossed for Rocket League paving the way," CD Projekt CEO Marcin Iwiński said to IGN. "Our upcoming Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will launch in closed beta for PC and Xbox One later this year, and Microsoft already confirmed Gwent's cross-play feature not only between Xbox One and PC, but also other consoles if they allow it. We also do have a technical solution in place for PS4 and would love to add Sony’s platform to cross-play at the start of open beta. All we need is a green light from Sony."
It appears as though everyone is waiting on Sony.
Back in March, when Microsoft made a public invitation for other consoles to join them in cross-platform play, Sony offered two comments on the invitation, both of which were non-answers.
