Wolfenstein: The New Order delayed

Bethesda vice president of PR and Marketing Pete Hines shared some disappointing news through Polygon today. Hines said that Wolfenstein: The New Order — by MachineGames —  has been delayed from the launch window of Q4 2013 into 2014. They delay is mostly due to challenges with developing for current and next-gen consoles at the same time.

Hines said, "Working on next-gen and current gen definitely has an impact, you're developing for two different things. The fact that the next-gen stuff is still moving is also definitely a factor. But the most important thing was definitely just looking where it was at, what they needed to polish. Because it's not just trying to be a shooter, because it's trying to be a shooter that also has driving elements, story elements, narrative, stealth sections — each one of those has to be excellent. It's not just like we're making a shooter, where if the shooting is good, then all 16 hours of the game will be good because that's all we're doing."

Hines stressed that MachineGames has been working on The New Order "for a while" and doesn't want all that time to go to waste by not giving the game the development time it needs.

While I'm disappointed that the game won't be coming out this year — especially after how good the trailers have been — I'd rather MachineGames get the time it needs to make this the best Wolfenstein game they possibly can.

When Wolfenstein: The New Order finally releases, it will do so on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
