Wonder Woman appointed as an honorary ambassador at the United Nations to help fight for gender equality

The fight for gender equality continues!

Wonder Woman had her silver screen debut earlier this year in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and while the film may have been hated by many, she was by far one of the better parts of the movie. While we have seen the fearless female warrior on the small screen before, it has taken 75 years to get her on the big screen! Gal Gadot released her inner warrior and showcased some of the best traits of the character in BvS.

In July, we got our first look at her first ever solo film which will release next summer. The film will be a period piece set during World War 1 with Gadot portraying the character during her discovery of society beyond the island of only women she has lived on for most of her life.

Gal Gadot was also at the United Nations on Friday with previous Wonder Woman actress, Linda Carter. The two were there to represent Wonder Woman who has been appointed an honorary ambassador due to her empowerment for women. Protestors argued that the character was a poor choice for the position due to her fairly revealing outfit that she dons in battle but the U.N. still appointed the fiction character the position.

"Wonder Woman is an icon," said UN Under-Secretary-General Cristina Gallach. "We are very pleased that this character will help us reach new audiences with essential messages of our empowerment and equality."

Linda Carter spoke about the character and how powerful the character is for women. "I couldn't think of a more perfect role for her," said Carter, saying the character shows women can be "smart and beautiful and strong and wise and kind and brave."

Yesteday, director of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the upcoming Justice League (which Wonder Woman will also be apart of) and writer of the Wonder Woman film released a brand new image of the Amazonian warrior on the battlefield. The director added the hashtag "#JusticeLeague" to show that this is most likely an image from the Justice League film and not the Wonder Woman movie.

Although her solo outing is about a year away, that hasn't stopped negative buzz from surrounding the film. A couple months ago an anonymous inside source from Warner Bros. reported that Wonder Woman is in a rough state at the moment and may not be the film fans are wanting. Of course these are rumors and even if they are true the film has plenty of time for reshoots or to be edited properly so it flows better.

Wonder Woman is set to release June 2nd, 2017 and Justice League will hit theaters November 17th, 2017.
