Wonder Woman sequel officially gets a release date

If Wonder Woman's massively, successful (and unfinished) run at the box office, coupled with its critical reception by both fans and critics weren't enough to clue you in on an inevitable sequel, Warner Brothers, while at Comic-Con, went ahead and announced an official date for the follow-up. Gal Gadot will return as Princess Diana aka Wonder Woman, when the Wonder Woman 2 hits theaters on December 13, 2019.

A sequel announced this early comes as no surprise, Wonder Woman is the biggest film of the year (at least until Star Wars Episode VIII), earning $652.9 million worldwide. On top of that, its domestic gross is currently at $389 million, which surpasses DC's own Man of Steel, Suicide Squad, and Batman v Superman. It's also passed Marvel's original Iron Man. Needless to say, Wonder Wonder has struck a chord with audiences worldwide, Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins have proven, without a shadow of a doubt, that women can be just as strong (emotionally), powerful and well, badass, as their male superhero counterparts.

Speaking of director Patty Jenkins, she deserves as much credit as Gal Gadot. In an industry dominated by male directors, especially in superhero action-adventure flicks, Jenkins also proved she can hang with the big boys. If that trench and courtyard scene, with the bell tower, didn't give you goosebumps, you need to check your pulse. Nevertheless, Jenkins is currently in negotiations to return for the sequel, which is great news, as she's already stated that she's written some early treatments, including a time and a place. "The story will take place in the US, which I think is right," said Jenkins. "She's Wonder Woman. She's got to come to America. It's time."
