Remember when it was a big deal that World of Warcraft featured over 7 million subscribers? Those days feel like a long and distant memory. In 2014, the fact that Blizzard's MMORPG has 7.6 million subscribers is a sign that the game's downward trend is showing no signs of stopping.
During a 2014 Quarter One earnings call, it was announced that the game lost about 200,000 subscribers between January and March of 2014. While this isn't the biggest cause for concern, it's still a bit troubling to see the once unstoppable MMO continue to trend downward. It's also important to remember that the game is experiencing a slow time in terms of content. Mists of Pandaria's content is just about over. The future is still a few months off as the lead-up to Warlords of Draenor hasn't quite begun just yet.
It'll be interesting to see the subscriber numbers once Warlords of Draenor releases.
