How long has the World of Warcraft movie been in development hell? Doesn't it feel like we've been hearing rumors here and there about it for ages? Well here's an actual update on the film. The studio behind Blizzard Entertainment's popular MMORPG, Legendary Pictures, has announced that they've hired writer Charles Leavitt to write the screenplay.
Leavitt is best known for writing K-PAX (starring Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey) and Blood Diamond (starring Leonardo DiCaprio). It'll be interesting to see what Leavitt comes up with. World of Warcraft has a deep and rich lore, of course being part of the Warcraft universe. Hardcore fans will be expecting a story that fits in with the lore and doesn't screw anything up… eh hem, Resident Evil.
Charles Leavitt wrote The Seventh Son for Legendary Pictures — a fantasy film due out in October of 2013. It stars Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Julianne Moore (Crazy, Stupid, Love), Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense), Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian) and Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski, Tron). It is an 18th century adventure focused on an apprentice to the local Spook who learns to fight evil spirits.
Legendary Pictures also is developing the Mass Effect movie. For that, they have the producers of The Dark Knight and Spider-Man Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni, as well as BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk producing the film.
