While Destiny is enjoying substantial growth in its playerbase, the same can't be said for Activision Blizzard's long-running MMORPG World of Warcraft. According to the company's latest figures, the number of World of Warcraft subscriptions dropped to 5.5 million during the last quarter, down 100,000 from three months ago.
Activision described the game's performance this quarter as "relatively stable," which is about all you can ask for given the lull in content as players eagerly await the MMO's next expansion, Legion.
World of Warcraft: Legion was officially announced at Gamescom in August, and will introduce the new Demon Hunter character class, customizable Artifact weapons, class order halls, and much more. With Blizzcon coming at the end of this week, we'll hopefully get more news, and perhaps a release date, for the eagerly awaited expansion.
