After recording an all-time low of 6.8 million World of Warcraft subscribers last quarter, Blizzard has announced a slight bump in the number of subscriptions for its long-standing MMORPG. In announcing "better-than-expected" third quarter 2014 financial results today, Activision Blizzard has revealed that World of Warcraft now has about 7.4 million subscribers as of September 30, 2014.
Although World of Warcraft is no longer the beast it once was when it boasted more than 12 million subscribers back in 2010, it still remains the number one subscription-based MMORPG.
World of Warcraft's subscriptions have slowly been trending downward, hovering around the 7.6 million mark for several months now. However, with the new Warlords of Draenor expansion due out this month, some estimate that subscriptions could be boosted to 8.8 million.
