Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch announced a statement via Epic’s website that their upcoming coop zombie shooter World War Z is getting a price drop before the game even launches. Karch explains the decision by pointing at Epic Games Store’s lucrative business model and thinks it offers both ‘players and developers the best deal’.
World War Z made headlines last winter when news broke out that the multiplayer zombie shooter would become the next in-line of Epic Games Store exclusives. As a smaller-budget AA game, it made only sense that publisher Focus Home Interactive was happy to jump on a slightly more beneficial gaming store. Whether this decision was entirely due to the Epic Games Store’s unique business model which only requires 12% of the revenue to be shared with the store holder or Epic outright buying the exclusivity was never explained.
We’re passing along much of the savings to you as gamers. […] We are thrilled to be able to share the developer-friendly benefits of the Epic Games store with you all, and can’t wait for you to play our game. – Saber Interactive CEO
It doesn’t really matter however, as regular players are seeing the advantages of the deal between the companies in form of nice savings. That’s because World War Z is getting a price reduction prior to the game’s launch this April. World War Z was originally being sold at $39.99 on the Epic Games Store but starting today, the game can be had for $5 less, at $34.99. Customers who bought the game prior to this permanent price reduction aren’t left in the dust too, as they will be refunded $5. A pretty classy move which is no doubt much appreciated among gamers these days.
World War Z is launching April 16th for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
