I was combing through my old gameplay clips I had uploaded to my Facebook over the years and came across a playthrough of the first mission in Destiny's Alpha.
Sure, many people posted comparisons between Peter Dinklage, or Dinklebot, and Nolan North, or NoNobot, but let me take you all the way back to the past. Back to the very first time we heard Dinklage as Ghost without any voice filters. The result is… bad.
I don't remember hating it as much back then, but that's because I always thought Ghost was supposed to be intentionally dead-sounding. I figured his line delivery was so monotone because Ghosts actually spoke like that. It wasn't until Nolan North's re-recording that Ghost actually has a bit of life to him, but the Alpha footage shows just how bored Dinklage sounded while recording his lines.
Some of the notably bad lines, aside from the infamous "That Wizard came from the Moon," start at 2:54, when you first enter the Lunar Complex. This horrible performance goes all the way up to 3:53 with the line "It can't be. It's the Hive!" which was then replaced with "We've awoken the Hive."
Seriously, it's all pretty cringeworthy. Part of me really wants to lay the blame on Dinklage, but I think the sound director that was in the recording room, that kept giving a thumbs up to Dinklage after every line is the real culprit.
