2K Sports has revealed the first trailer for WWE 2K17 – as seen above – featuring former world heavyweight champion Goldberg as a pre-order bonus.
The 49-year old has not been involved with WWE programming since 2004, where he defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 20.
He celebrated his triumph with none other than WWE's very own Texas Rattlesnake, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin. However, the party atmosphere soon came to an abrupt end, following a stunner from Austin.
Until reports surfaced a few weeks ago, the idea of having somebody like Goldberg involved with WWE 2K17's promotional material might have seemed unheard of. But now, it's all fell into place for him.
WWE has recently announced that their programming will also be subject to a re-shuffle, creating two competing brands with distinct and exclusive rosters.
SmackDown is going live on Tuesday nights, regularly, for the first time in the brand's history. The product will be airing on USA Network, just like RAW.
Many WWE fans had suggested that this switch might well have a domino-effect on the company's video game, with the name 'SmackDown vs RAW 2K17' being sounded out.
However, until we see the direction in which WWE will take its product in the coming months, changing the name of the game seems unlikely. The company is set to announce the changes officially on July 19th, with a draft lottery seemingly in the works.
As of now, WWE 2K17 is the official title name and we would suggest that any rumours should be taken with a hint of salt.
The game is expected to hit shelves in October 2016.
