X-Men producer doesn’t want to reboot Wolverine anytime soon

For the last 17 years, the only man to don the claws of Wolverine on the silver screen is Hugh Jackman. He was there through the thick and thin and managed to always be the best of the X-Men franchise, even in its worst moments. Earlier this year, Jackman put on the claws one last time for Logan and walked away for the role forever.

His performance in Logan is one worth remembering for a lifetime and is the perfect way to send the character off. Even though most of us really wouldn't want anyone to play Wolverine, it's more than inevitable that it'll happen due to the amount of money that's just waiting to be made. Luckily for us, it seems like some of the minds behind the X-Men movies aren't keen on recasting Wolverine quite yet.

Speaking with Screen Rant to promote the upcoming home video release of Logan, X-Men producer Hutch Parker suggested they're going to let the character rest for a while and allow other mutants to take the spotlight.

“I think for the moment our focus really is on other characters. I think there’s a part for all of us that feels like Logan, as played by Hugh, is the definitive performance of that character. And I think we’re all a little hesitant at the idea of rebooting it in any way. So, for the moment we’re going to look at – there’s so much else explore in the [X-Men] Universe and to play with. Particularly now as we’ve seen such bold tonal choices being made, I think that opens up the landscape as well, to seeing other genres living kind of fully within the comic book genre. And you saw that with Guardians of the Galaxy, I believe [it] is an exceptional example of that. Obviously Deadpool and Logan now, but I think there’ll be more to come.”

This is a win/win situation for everyone as it means Hugh Jackman's last ride won't be ruined via a "too soon" reboot and we'll get the chance to see some more unknown mutants on the big screen. It's entirely possible they could keep Wolverine out of future X-Men movies and replace him with X-23 who managed to prove to be a great on-screen character. Dafne Keen is young and it would be fun to watch her grow up with these incredible powers, not to mention she's a fantastic actress.

Logan is out on Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, May 23rd.
