FOX has announced they have ordered a pilot episode for an untitled X-men TV show to air on their network. It will be done in collaboration with Marvel and Fox, with Matt Nix (creator of Burn Notice) writing the script. Nix will also serve as an E.P. along with Bryan Singer.
There is no specific characters announced yet, but according to Fox it will be based on two parents that find out their two children are mutants and they are "Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive,"
"Developing a Marvel property has been a top priority for the network–and we are so pleased with how Matt Nix has led us into this thrilling universe," said David Madden, president, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company in the release. "There's comic book adventure, emotional and complicated relationships, and a rich, existing mythology from which to draw. With the brilliant production crew behind this project, it has all the makings of a big, fun and exciting new series."
Marvel's head of television, Jeph Loeb, who will be producing the series, said, "Marvel Television is thrilled to be co-producing with 20th Century Fox Television on our first project. Matt's a huge fan of X-Men and his take on the X-Men universe, with its rich characters and high-stakes adventure, is exactly the show we want on FOX. It's a great team of creative producers who will be making something entirely unique."
Now, granted we have heard about this show for a while, but this time it's different. The pilot order was actually a "put order". This means if they do not air a pilot on TV, a penalty has to be paid to the studio. When these orders are made, it usually is followed very shortly after by a series order. So, we'll have to wait and see but it looks like it's finally going to happen.
