Xbox 360 and PS3 game releases for April 2014

It's a jam-packed April for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Looking at the release calendar for the month, you'd have never guessed their successors have already launched. While you can view what's new this month for Xbox One and PS4 here, below are new games coming to the last-gen systems (Xbox 360 and PS3).

MLB 14: The Show – PS3 – April 1, 2014

Just in time for Opening Day, MLB 14: The Show is the latest entry in Sony San Diego Studios' critically acclaimed baseball simulator franchise. Although this year marks the series first time on PS4, the game boasts all the same features across all three PlayStation platforms, including the new Quick Counts and Player Lock which are designed to speed up the game.

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate — Deluxe Edition – Xbox 360, PS3 – April 1, 2014

Formerly a handheld exclusive, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate — Deluxe Edition offers the same "dynamic story and gameplay" experienced on Vita/3DS now on Xbox 360 and PS3, in high-definition. The game also includes a new map and hint system for improved navigation and objective tracking, fully-voiced narration, and 5.1 surround sound.

Titanfall – Xbox 360 – April 8, 2014

Titanfall was originally due out for Xbox 360 in March alongside the Xbox One and PC versions of the game. But after two delays it's now coming on April 8 — barring anymore setbacks. Little is known about the Xbox 360 version, which is being developed by Bluepoint instead of Respawn Entertainment, but it's believed to be largely of the same quality as the other versions. The fact that we've seen no footage of the Xbox 360 version is somewhat disconcerting though.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood – Xbox 360 – April 9, 2014

The Curse of the Brotherhood is a reimagining of Max and the Magic Marker, which was released in 2010. It's a side-scrolling puzzle-platformer, previously released for Xbox One in December 2013 where it scored a pedestrian 5.5/10 here on GameZone. In his review, Splectha called The Curse of the Brotherhood's visuals "gorgeous," but noted "infuriating mechanics."

LEGO: The Hobbit – Xbox 360, PS3 – April 11, 2014

LEGO THE Hobbit is based on the first two films of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit Trilogy; this includes The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and the upcoming The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug. In the game, you traverse through Middle-earth, joining Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf the Grey, and Thorin Oakenshield and more as they head toward the Dwarven Kingdom of Erebor. In typical LEGO game fashion, you can expect to play as familiar characters and visit key locations from the films.

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil – Xbox 360, PS3 – April 15, 2014

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is a new game from Electronic Arts designed to replicate the excitement of the World Cup. It boasts 203 national teams, 7,469 players, 19 officially licensed managers, and 21 new stadiums including 12 authentic stadiums from Brazil. In terms of gameplay, it's said to be an evolution of the FIFA 14 game engine with improvements made to acceleration, deceleration, ball dribbling, and player movement overall. There's also 100 new animations. 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is also only coming to Xbox 360 and PS3, with EA opting to skip the next-gen systems.

Trials Fusion – Xbox 360 – April 16, 2014

Trials Fusion is the return of Red Lynx's addicting 2D stunt bike franchise — back with a full map-editor and tons of physics-based challenges to test your skills. The game builds off the same addictive physics-based gameplay of its predecessors while incorporating brand-new features, including the FMX tricks system.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – Xbox 360, PS3 – April 29, 2014

Coinciding with the release of the new film, the story of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 doesn't actually follow the movie's events. In the game, you will play as both Spider-Man and Peter Parker, allowing for a wardrobe system that allows you to pick your costume (each with a different bonus that caters to your individual playstyle). Additionally, developer Beenox has completely revamped Spider-Man's web-swinging mechanics, which you can read more about here.

Child of Light – Xbox 360, PS3 – April 30, 2014

Created by a small team of developers at Ubisoft Montreal, Child of Light is a reimagining of classic fairytales that invites players on an epic adventure in which they'll uncover mysteries, participate in JRPG-inspired combat, and explore a mystical kingdom. You play as Aurora, a child stolen from her home who, in her quest to return, must bring back the sun, the moon, and the stars held captive by the Queen of the Night. Accompanying Aurora on her journey is Igniculus the firefly and several other unlikely allies.
