Xbox 360 and PS3 game releases for February 2014

I hope you held on to your Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 because February is surprisingly jam-packed with releases. Normally considered a dead month for video games, both consoles have a nice selection of titles releasing this month. Though some are coming to Xbox One and PS4 as well, there's a number of games that are exclusive to "last-gen" systems. Below are the list of games due out for Xbox 360 and PS3 in February 2014.

Fable Anniversary – Xbox 360 – February 4, 2014

Fable Anniversary is a fully re-mastered version of Fable: The Lost Chapters (an expanded version of the original Fables game). It features overhauled HD graphics, a new save system, SmartGlass integration, and Achievements. The original Fable game was released in 2004, so if you were late to the Xbox 360 party then now is your chance to experience it.

The LEGO Movie Videogame – Xbox 360, PS3 – February 7, 2014

Based on Warner Bros. upcoming film, The LEGO Movie Videogame is more of TT Games giving us what we love — LEGO. The game's plot draws from the film, revolving around a perfectly average minifigure named Emmet who is tasked with saving the world even though we already have heroes like Batman and Wonder Woman around. There are supposedly more than 90 characters inspired by the film and 15 levels. If you've played TT Games' past LEGO games, odds are you'll enjoy this.

The Wolf Among Us – Episode 2: Smoke and Mirrors – PS3 (February 4) Xbox 360 (February 5)

Telltale Games' The Wolf Among Us series continues with the release of Episode 2: Smoke & Mirrors. Picking up where you previously left off, Smoke & Mirrors will take into account the choices you made in the first episode, Faith, and ultimately impact the overall story. Given the circumstances, The Wolf Among Us is a decent follow-up to Telltale's critically acclaimed series The Walking Dead. It's not easy to follow in the footsteps of a "Game of the Year."

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII – Xbox 360, PS3 – February 11, 2014

It all ends here. The story of Lightning Returns is set after the stories of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2. After sleeping for 500 years, Lightning is awoken by the god Bhunivelze with only 13 days left remaining for the world and its inhabitants. It's up to you to save as many souls as possible so that they may be brought into a new world that Bhunivelze will create. In terms of gameplay, Lightning Returns features a completely overhauled battle system and new customization options.

Earth Defense Force 2025 – Xbox 360, PS3 – February 18, 2014

It's been eight years since the defeat of the alien invasion of Earth Defense Force 2017. But as civilization is just recovering, a new catastrophe falls upon Earth — giant aliens and insects found deep underground. With evolved Ravagers posing a more dangerous threat than ever before, the Earth Defense Force must once again save humanity from destruction. The good news is you'll have hundreds of weapons at your disposal.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 – Xbox 360, PS3 – February 25, 2014

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is the conclusion to the epic Lords of Shadow saga. Gabriel Belmont, now known as Dracula, returns once again, weakened and yearning for release from his immortal bonds. Faced with a new, more powerful threat, Dracula must first reacquire his powers from his famed castle. Lords of Shadow 2 replaces the previous game's magic system with the Void Sword and the Chaos Claws, a careful system that balances health replenishment and damage.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare – Xbox 360 – February 25, 2014

Although the Xbox One version of this game will come with two extra modes, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is still a welcomed addition to the Xbox 360 lineup. After all, it's a multiplayer shooter based on PopCap Games' wonderfully addictive tower defense series Plants vs. Zombies. What's to hate? At launch, Garden Warfare will offer more than 10 maps and three distinct game modes, including 12 vs 12 competitive multiplayer modes. It even has a four-player cooperative mode in which plants must defend the garden bases from zombies.

Thief – Xbox 360, PS3 – February 25, 2014

Another game also coming to Xbox One and PS4, Thief is a reinvention of the franchise that helped define an entire genre of games. In the game, you control Garrett, a master thief who relies on the cover of shadows to steal from the rich. Though, gameplay is choice-driven — with a number of possible paths and approaches — stealth will always be your best option. To aid you, Thief introduces "focus," an optional new mode that speeds up Garrett's reaction times and giving the player an edge over the surroundings.

As I said, quite a nice selection to choose from this month. Seriously, we're only in February, folks, and we already have this kind of lineup to choose from. See what games are releasing for Xbox One and PS4 during February 2014 here.
