Xbox boss Phil Spencer will not force Xbox One on PC players

Phil Spencer’s plans for the relationship between Xbox and Windows are slowly coming into focus. First, it was upgradable Xbox systems, then it wasn’t. Then it was Xbox games on PC, but not all of them. Now it’s the freedom to play on either platform but benefit from both.

In a recent interview with Polygon, Spencer clarified that PC gamers who aren’t involved with the Xbox brand may very well stay PC-only gamers, and that that’s fine.

“I was actually asked by somebody, ‘Did you do Forza 6: Apex as a way of teasing the PC gamers with how good Forza is so they’ll go buy an Xbox One?’” he said. “No. That’s not the plan. So they might not [buy an Xbox One], and I want that to be okay.”

“We’re gonna make the absolute best TV gaming console experience we possibly can,” Spencer continued, “and if you decide that you want a PC gaming rig and to have an Xbox One, the fact that Microsoft has a presence in both of those places is gonna make your life better.”

Spencer’s latest comments echo his previous suggestions regarding Windows and Xbox. The gist of Spencer’s plan, it seems, is that allowing Xbox to bleed into the Windows space will attract additional developers and, ultimately, benefit Xbox gamers with more games. Exactly how that will play out remains to be seen.
