Back in March, Microsoft made a public invitation for other consoles to joing them in cross-platform play. Basically, they were making an offer to Sony to allow PlayStation and Xbox users to play multiplatform games on the same network.
Sony offered two comments on the invitation, both of which were non-answers. Perhaps Sony hoped that the community would forget about the offer and stop asking about it. Unfortunately for Sony, there are some who still have hope.
Former Microsoft man and Xbox co-creator Ed Fries remembers and he still wants Sony to respond. In an interview with IGN Fries commented on how good Xbox Head Phil Spencer has been at "fixing" up Microsoft. One of the biggest things he has done has been the offer of cross-platform play.
"A great example is this recent thing. Opening Xbox Live for cross-platform play. I hope that Sony is going to respond, likewise.
"I'm a big fan of Shuhei Yoshida at Sony as well, he's a great guy, loves games. It's good to see some of the war ramping down, and more respect and co-operation between those two groups.
"So, I'm very optimistic for the future of both companies."
While he might be optimistic, I don't know if Sony will ever agree to it.
