Xbox to host mini-E3 from home with 60 new demos on their store

In June, we were robbed of the glorious week of E3 due to coronavirus. That magical week where we get all kinds of new looks, reveals, and details on all the hottest upcoming games from companies like Xbox and Sony.

Since a lot of work goes into planning these things, many publishers decided to do their own event. Sony, Xbox, EA, and many others have been doing their own events to make up for this. Geoff Keighley has also been hosting the Summer Games Fest which has given us looks at Unreal Engine 5, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater remake, Crash Bandicoot 4, and more.

Xbox and Keighley have teamed up as part of Summer Games Fest to do an at home E3 experience which will allow players to play over 60 demos from their Xbox. It’s noted that the list is still growing and could end up with between 75 – 100 different demos. This will run from July 21st to July 27th and include demos for games like Destroy All Humans, Haven, Hellpoint, and Birdskate.

It should be noted that these will be presented like showfloor demos in the sense that they’ll be a bit unpolished. Typically, demos at expos aren’t finished and have bugs or other issues. They’re playable but are meant to be played in a controlled environment in case anything goes wrong. We imagine that it won’t be too bad and the worst issues will be ironed out but don’t expect your traditional demo.

After a week, these demos will disappear from the Xbox Store and be rendered unplayable. They may return later as proper demos but this is a limited time experience so if you want to try Destroy All Humans before playing it, jump on this opportunity.

Developers are also welcoming any feedback and criticism since these are still games that are in-development. Be kind but constructive on their social media pages!

It’s unclear if Xbox would ever do anything like this again for something like a proper E3 showcase in the future but if all goes well, this could open the doors for that.
