A new report, stemming from emails allegedly received by some Xbox LIVE members, suggests that the price for Xbox Live Gold could increase by as much as 40% in certain Latin American countries. SoloXboxOne, a Latin American-based Xbox site, claims to have received emails from Microsoft indicating the price will increase beginning on February 18th.
The countries that will be effected are Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Colombia. Mexico has already received an increase of 50% for monthly users of Xbox Live Gold, according to the same report. Microsoft Spain has already confirmed that prices would not be increasing.
If the claims are true for other countries, the price effect will not go into effect until February 18th, so there is still time to renew your membership. Remember, Xbox Live Gold renewals begin from the end of your contract and not from when you actually input the code. So, if your membership isn't up for another six months or so, you may want to stock up on a membership code at the discounted rate as it will be added on to the end of your membership. You're only delaying the inevitable at that point, but at least it saves you money on another full year.
