As revealed by the NPD Group last night, the PlayStation 4 outsold the Xbox One and all other hardware during the month of April 2014. As is Microsoft tradition though, the company took to its blog to reveal some hard numbers, adding some more context to NPD's initial statement.
In the month of April 2014, Xbox One sold 115,000 units in the United States. Comparatively, Microsoft's new console has outpaced Xbox 360 sales by 76 percent in the first six months on the market. On the software side, Xbox One continues to see "impressive sales" with an average of three games sold per console. For the month, 447,000 Xbox One games were sold.
Moving to the Xbox 360, it managed to sell 71,000 units in April, more than any other seventh generation console. 2.2 million Xbox 360 games were also sold.
Combined, both consoles held eight of the top 10 spots on the game list in the U.S.: Titanfall, Kinect Sports Rival, Call of Duty: Ghosts, NBA 2K14, GTA 5, Minecraft, and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare.
Looking ahead to June, Microsoft has some big plans starting with a new $399 Xbox One sans Kinect. Additionally, the company also announced that the Games with Gold program will also be debuting for Xbox One in June.
