Xbox One loses to PS4 in December, but has strongest sales month ever

The console wars continue

Despite the fact that the PS4 was the best selling home gaming console in the United States for the month of December, Microsoft says the Xbox One had its strongest sales month ever.

The company released a statement about its stellar month:

“December was the biggest month ever for Xbox One sales in the US, and Xbox One was the only [current-generation] console with year-over-year growth, according to NPD,” said Mike Nichols, corporate vice president for Xbox marketing.

“In addition, Xbox One was the top-selling console over the second half of 2016, following the announcement of Xbox One S at E3.”

Nichols went on to say that Xbox Live engagement also had noteworthy movement, hitting an all-time high in November and December with 3.9 billion hours played, which is up 23 percent compared to 2015.

Other industry insiders say the Xbox One is already outselling its predecessors, as the console has already outsold the original Xbox in the U.S., and is currently tracking ahead of the Xbox 360.

Microsoft has a lot to look forward to in 2017 with its highly anticipated Project Scorpio on the horizon. However, there’s much to be desired from the company following the cancellation of the console exclusive, Scalebound.
