Xbox One May update now available

The latest system update for Xbox One is now available to download. It's a rather small update — introducing a new "Sound Mixer" to control the volume of snapped apps, as well as the option to help improve speech recognition through Kinect.

Using the new Sound Mixer, you're now able to control the volume levels of individual snapped apps, letting you decide which app is louder. The update also includes a new Chat mixer that lets you control the volume levels when you're using Kinect for chat.

The opt-in to improve voice and speech for the Kinect can be found under Settings, Privacy & Online Safety, Custom, and Share Voice Data.

Lastly, the May update now allows you to download an update manually when it's available instead of having to wait for the automatic rollout. To do so, simply head to Settings, select System, and then System Update.

Like I said, it's a minor update compared to what we've seen in the past, but Microsoft's Phil Spencer, the new head of Xbox, did tease that the monthly updates for June and July "look really good." If last week's leak is any indication, then we could be looking at external hard drive support soon. Hopefully we'll find out more at E3 next month.
