Xbox One pre-orders hit launch cap at GameStop, no longer available in-store

GameStop stores around the U.S. have ceased taking pre-orders for the Xbox One as the popular video game retail chain has apparently reached its launch-day allocation. Before we declare the Xbox One an early victor in the next-gen console war, it should be noted that several GameStop stores have indicated the allotment of Xbox One consoles was considerably lower than the PlayStation 4 to begin with.

"We were only given an allocation of 16 Xbox Ones but we have 60 PlayStation 4s and we're still taking orders," a GameStop in California told Polygon. Other GameStops have reported similar stories of Xbox One stock being very low. Interestingly enough, a local GameStop told us that PS4 pre-orders were doubling that of the Xbox One. Given the difference in console allocation, it's easy to see why. If you could sell a total of 32 PS4's while Xbox One could only sell a maximum of 16, you're already doubling it.

Without any hard numbers, it's hard to get a real grasp as to how each console is faring early on; although, I think it's a safe bet to assume both are selling considerably well. I'm sure Microsoft is pleased that consumers are still interested in the Xbox One despite a less-than-stellar E3 showing in which Sony punched them in the mouth.
