Xbox One’s TV DVR feature has been canned

Microsoft's focus is purely on games for the Xbox One

Xbox One's TV DVR feature has been canned

The Xbox One was originally pegged to be an all-in-one console, and while it has succeeded in that regard, one feature that was previously revealed back in August 2015, TV DVR, has apparently been canceled. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the news in a statement to The Verge.

"After careful consideration, we've decided to put development of DVR for Over-the-Air TV on hold to focus our attention on launching new, higher fan-requested gaming experiences across Xbox One and Windows 10…We're always listening to fan feedback and we look forward to bringing more requested experiences on Xbox One, Windows 10 and Xbox Live this year."

The DVR feature was set to let Xbox One users schedule recordings through their mobile devices and could also stream or download TV shows to any Windows 10 PC. However, the feature was set to have a strict limit of only free-to-air television, so it's not like you could use it for popular shows like Game of Thrones.

This isn't the worst news in the world as there are a variety of on-Demand services like Hulu, HBO Go and Xfinity TV that can let you catch up on what you've missed. Provided you pay for it that is.
