Microsoft's Xbox One, despite being released on Friday, November 22, is already on the verge of surpassing the Wii U's total sales in the UK.
Chart-Track confirmed today that Xbox One doubled the week one UK sales of its predecessor Xbox 360, which launched worldwide in 2005. With the Xbox 360 selling roughly 70,000 units in the UK at the time, MCV has been informed that the Xbox One's sales number is "slightly over double this."
The unnamed source has told the site that Xbox One is now just a few thousand consoles away from over-taking Wii U lifetime sales in the UK, something that could happen as early as this week. Nintendo recently confirmed that 3.91 million Wii U consoles have been sold worldwide since its launch in December 2012.
While this is definitely a testament to the Xbox One's popularity in the UK, it's also a clear sign that Nintendo must rethink its marketing heading into the Wii U's second year. Hopefully, a string of big-named Wii U titles, like the new Super Smash Bros., will encourage consumers to buy into Nintendo's console.
