After outselling the PS4 for three weeks in a row, the Xbox One has surpassed the one million sales barrier in the UK, MCV revealed.
“We’re seeing fantastic momentum with Xbox One having sold almost 10 million units to retailers worldwide,” said Xbox UK marketing director Harvey Eagle.
“This momentum is reflected in the UK, particularly over the last three weeks, which is extremely encouraging as we approach the Christmas shopping period. People buy consoles to play the best games, and Xbox One is home to the best games. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is one of the highest rated next-gen console games released, Sunset Overdrive is the highest rated new franchise on any next-gen console and Forza Horizon 2 is the highest rated driving game on any next gen console," Eagle continued.
Looking ahead, Eagle also pointed out an impressive catalog of Xbox One games slated to release in 2015, including Quantum Break, Fable Legends, and Halo 5: Guardians, which will have a beta this December for those who purchased Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
"With some great deals to be had on the high street, now really is the best time to be an Xbox One owner," Eagle added.
Microsoft revealed similar success for the Xbox One in the United States earlier this month, announcing that sales have "more than tripled" in the U.S. since the new price took effect on November 2nd. Xbox VP of Marketing Yusuf Mehdi revealed that Xbox One sales were leading PS4 sales in the U.S. for the first two weeks of November. Should the momentum continue — and there's no reason to believe it wouldn't with such attractive holiday bundles — then it would be the first time the Xbox One outsold the PS4 in the U.S. over the last 10 months.
Of course, Microsoft has lots of work to do to catch up to the PS4, which got off to a blazing fast start. As of September 30, 13.5 million PS4 units were shipped to retailers worldwide; 10 million units have been sold through to consumers as of August 12. The PS4 surpassed one million UK sales back in September, so there's still some catching up to do by the Xbox One.
