For Xbox Insider owners that will be Day 1 adopters of the Xbox One X, you can now preload updates for games in your library that will be 4K compatible on launch day. The update right now is only available to Xbox insiders in the Alpha ring and allows you to download the 4K assets to an external device or to your standard Xbox for network transfer.
In order to take advantage of the feature, do the following:
- Open the Xbox One Guide and flip over to the System panel on the far right.
- Select Settings.
- Scroll down to System and hit Backup & transfer.
- Hit the checkbox on Download 4K game content.
- Now head over to My games and apps.
- Scroll down to Updates.
- In the Updates panel, if you flip over to the third drop-down menu, you will be able to filter your updates to show only Xbox One X Enhanced Games. Boom.
Here's the official description for the 4K Download update from the Patch Notes:
Download 4K Game ContentWe’ve added a great new setting that’ll help you get ready for Xbox One X by downloading available 4K game content ahead of time. Download 4K content on your external games & apps storage device and plug the device into your Xbox One X to play right away! If you don’t have an external storage device, you can also download 4K game content directly to your current console, then transfer your games & apps to your Xbox One X using network transfer to get started faster.
The Xbox One X releases on November 7th, 2017.
