Update: Windows Central is reporting that both the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X will release on November 10th. The Xbox Series X will cost $499.99 and have payment plans.
Update #2: Microsoft has since confirmed that the Xbox Series S leak is real. It’s currently slated to cost $299.99 and is the smallest Xbox console to date. Microsoft says more info is coming very soon.
The original story follow below.
The next-generation of Xbox is coming in just TWO months but we still have a lot of unanswered questions. How much is it? What’s the actual release date? What the hell is the cheaper console (Xbox Series S) and how much is it?
Well, while we still don’t know much about the specs, we have new details on Xbox Series S. Reputable insider Brad Sams has revealed the look of the console and the estimated pricing, which is $299.99. The console sports a very similar look to the the Xbox One S, except one key difference. There’s a giant black circle on top of it. The circle appears to be the console’s ventilation as looks like the one on top of the Series X.
You can take a look at it in the video below.
Of course, since this isn’t officially from Microsoft, things could change. While the design has been confirmed as authentic by insider Daniel Ahmad, the pricing could be in flux. While we don’t know for sure, Microsoft will likely detail pricing and dates for the Xbox Series S and X this month. Given its confirmed for November, they’ll have to open pre-orders pretty soon.
The Xbox Series S aims to be a cheaper answer to next-gen. While it won’t boast the power of Series X and will likely be weaker than PS5, it’ll still give you an upgrade. This will allow those who aren’t hardcore gamers or just don’t want to break the bank to play the biggest next-gen titles.
There’s no word on whether or not the console will feature a disc drive or if it’ll go the route of digital-only. Sony will offer two versions of PS5 but the only difference between the two is the inclusion/lack of a disc drive.
Microsoft has also been clearing store shelves to make way for the Xbox Series S and X. The company has discontinued the Xbox One X and digital-only One S. If you want an Xbox One, the only option is to buy a One S with a disc drive.
We’ll continue to keep you posted as we learn more about the Xbox Series S.
