Xbox Series X price reveal stuns by costing just $499

Talk about nice surprise

Oh man, Microsoft really is taking the gaming world by storm this week. After revealing the lightweight Series S yesterday, today we finally know how much the big boy version of the next-gen console will cost. The Xbox Series X will launch at a very affordable $499 this November 10th!

A major shock to everyone who followed the journey towards next-gen. Microsoft has been rightfully touting the Xbox Series X as the most powerful new console and going by the spec sheets from both Sony and Microsoft, it’s true.

The Xbox Series X trumps the PlayStation 5 in almost every aspect on a technical level. The only aspect where Sony’s system is ahead is its storage system. While both next-gen consoles feature NVMe SSDs, Sony’s variant is more than two times faster.

Sheer power has never been a surefire sign of a console’s success in the past – in fact, the PS4 is the first console that won a generation and was the most powerful since forever – but both platform holders have been marketing the SSDs in particular as a game changer. So, it’s going to be interesting to see how both platforms fare with future games.

Nonetheless, the Xbox Series X has simply more power under its hood, and from gaming aficionados to industry insiders, everyone was fearing a return of the infamous Five-Hundred-Ninety-Nine of PS3 yore.

That did not happen thankfully, with the Series X being confirmed to cost only $499. It’s the same price point of the Xbox One X and has proven to be the sweet spot for gamers who care about the best possible visuals.

But this is only half of the story here. Microsoft’s Xbox Series S is a very cheap option to jump into next-gen gaming with only minimal concessions at almost half the price. Sony really has no answer to that at this point. It’ll be fascinating to see how Sony is planning to price its PS5.
