Xenonauts 2 in “active designing and prototyping” phase

Nothing will spoil a cold war faster than a hostile colonization of an alien species.

For fans of XCOM, Xenonauts was a natural fit. Not only was it inspired by 1994‘s X-COM: UFO Defense, but the 2012 release and success of Enemy Unknown served to set a tone and audience for this particular sub-genre. A strategy turn based tactics game, Xenonauts implemented an alternative timeline during the Cold War where the global giants were suddenly dwarfed by the onset of an alien invasion.

Digging deep into aspect features such as inventory management and troop organizational approaches, the game offered something extremely flexible and intuitive. It also did all this while retaining the old school feel of the early X-COM games via mechanics and served as an alternative to 2K Marin’s The Bureau.

This is kind of old news at this point, given the game came out nearly 3 years ago and has already been thoroughly enjoyed by many. The reason all this is worth mentioning is that Xenonauts looks to be staging itself for a sequel. On the Goldhawk Forums, Chris England, the project lead for Xenonauts, made some pretty appealing statements, “I'd say the chances of us making Xenonauts 2 as our next game are better than even." While this is a little cautious and far from announcing a street date, it does look good as England continued by explaining that the team is "actively designing and prototyping" a sequel, however it’ll be some months yet before there’s any official word on what Goldhawk Interactive’s next project will be.
