In the past two years, Xseed Games has localized and published two games in North America: versions of Ys: The Oath in Felghana and Ys I & II for the PSP. Now the company is dropping Ys Origin, along with The Oath in Felghana a second time, on Steam.
The events of Ys Origin occur 700 years before those of Ys I & II and follow three characters as they progress through Darm Tower. The game dates back to 2006 and was only released on PCs in Japan. Similar in basic gameplay but not style is The Oath in Felghana, which Xseed treated North American PSP owners to in 2010.
“People have been asking for Falcom’s great catalog of PC games to be officially made available in English for a long time,” said Jun Iwasaki, president of Xseed Games. “To start our new publishing arrangement on Steam with two standout entries from Falcom’s action-based Ys series, one of which has never been made available in English before, is an ideal situation for us, and we are excited about the future possibilities.”
Ys: The Oath in Felghana will arrive on Steam this Monday, March 19 for $14.99. The publisher has yet to reveal pricing and release details for Ys: Origin.
