Sega is preparing a "surprise announcement" related to the Yakuza action-adventure series.
The news will directly follow the results of the Yakuza Character General Election, which Sega is revealing in Tokyo on August 18. The event gives fans a chance to vote on their favorite characters.
The latest entry in the series, Yakuza 5, came out last year for PlayStation 3 exclusively in Japan. The company has no current plans to bring it to the West. Sega also released HD versions of the first two Yakuza games for Wii U. Again, that's only available in Japan.
Some fans speculate that the announcement could involve a spin-off title for the PlayStation 4, a release for the PlayStation Vita, or localization plans. The last title to reach North America was Yakuza: Dead Souls in March 2012.
