Yandere Simulator developer asks community to help decide future of the game

We first heard about a project called Yandere Simulator last year. For those unfamiliar, Yandere Simulator is a game where you take control of a girl that is desperately in love with her schoolmate and systematically kill everyone and anyone he interacts with… So he can be yours, only yours.

For the uninitiated, a yandere is a Japanese character trait commonly found in anime or manga. The yandere character is obsessive, possessive, and often times jealous to the point of violence or murder when another woman goes near the person she loves – her senpai.

Yandere Simulator is basically Hitman a-la high school. You murder and hide the bodies of or your rivals, take photos to slander them and heal yourself by taking photos with the man you love.

Unfortunately, this is a game we won't see until 2019 – if the developer keeps to his current plans. YandereDev released a video asking his community to help him decide the future of Yandere Simulator, there are three options:

Reduce the scope of the game

"It would be disappointing to everyone who has been anticipating all of the cool features I have been talking about for the past 20 months."

Give Yandere Simulator to a game company

"If Yandere Simulator was taken out of my hands and given to a company they might remove a lot of content, refuse to implement certain features planned for the game, or take the game in a direction that you wouldn't enjoy"

Launch the Kickstarter campaign sooner

"I feel like the Kickstarter has a higher chance of succeeding if I am able to show off lots of features. If  I launch the kickstarter now, Ill have to try and pitch the game using only the currently existing features. The current build of the game does not accurately create the experience that the final game is supposed to provide, which is why I feel like it would be wrong to try and convince people to fund Yandere Simulator with the game in its current state."

Staying the course and releasing in 2019 is always an option, but YandereDev wants to know what the community would prefer. At the moment, the poll has a majority voting for the game to hit Kickstarter sooner than anticipated (the game is about halfway to where he wanted it to be to release on Kickstarter point), followed by the developer not taking any action and releasing in 2019.
