Yoshida: PS4’s indie movement reminiscent of the original PlayStation

We've all seen the slogan: PlayStation <3 Devs (referencing indie developers). It's no secret that Sony is committing a tremendous amount of resources towards the development of indie titles for the PlayStation 4. Since the initial reveal, Sony has basked in the glory of supporting indie developers. And while their support has sometimes felt a little forced during press conferences, it's clear that Sony is excited have such an emphasis on indie games with its next-gen console.

Speaking to the PlayStation Blog, Sony Woldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida likened the indie movement on PS4 to working on the original PlayStation.

"The indie movement is so exciting to me," he said. "It really reminds me of when we were working on the original PlayStation. Back then, PlayStation really expanded the audience for gaming and brought in a lot of new developers. Lots of unique, interesting games came out of nowhere.

"I feel a similar kind of vibe and passion from those indie people today. I’m so excited this time. It was scary going into PS3, actually. Everything was going bigger, but this time around it’s a really great combination of big and better games, and smaller, really creative, interesting titles," Yoshida concluded.

As for what indie games in particular Yoshida is looking forward to, he specifically mentioned Octodad and The Witness.

"I’m always a huge fan of Octodad. I was watching the live demo before the press conference and was like “Let me play!” And The Witness. It wasn’t in the show, but I can’t wait to play the game when it comes out."

What indie titles are you excited for on PlayStation 4?
