You can get the GameStop credit card today

The much-maligned credit card for big bad GameStop — the one that boasts an APR of 26.99% (which is pretty normal compared to other retailers) — is available today, ready to help you afford the onslaught of blockbuster game releases this holiday season.

How do we know this despite no announcement or press release from the gaming retailer? Well, we actually just opened one.

While we've heard plenty of rumors regarding the credit card, GameStop earlier this month finally clarified what the new GameStop PowerUp Rewards Credit Card finally entails.

"The new GameStop PowerUp Rewards Credit Card will provide cardholders with convenience and benefits exclusive to account holders, including being able to make purchases with the card in-store and online, promotional financing for larger purchases, online and mobile platform card management and payment services, as well as no annual fee and exclusive offers for savings throughout the year," GameStop explained. Upon opening an account, PowerUp Rewards Pro members will receive a one-time award of 15,000 bonus points; PowerUp Rewards Basic members will receive 5,000 bonus points.

GameStop PowerUp members can earn points for purchases and get access to exclusive offers, news, and events. These points can then be redeemed for all sorts of products, including gaming gear, limited edition collectibles, discounts, and coupons for additional savings.

And contrary to earlier rumors, there is a pre-screening that can determine if you are even eligible to open the GameStop credit card. When attempting to sign up to receive one, we had to provide our address, social security number, and average monthly income. Then, using some magical formula, you are approved or not approved.
