You know those really gross sounds you hear in horror games like the upcoming one from Bethesda and Tango Gameworks, The Evil Within? Well, odds are those disgusting were created by some dude playing with food and stuffing his face. Yup, the sound of dripping blood, gooey brains splattering, bodies being mutilated are really just noodles, marshmallows, cantaloupe, and other delicious foods.
"What you wouldn’t expect is how these sounds are engineered. Stomach-turning noises that could make squeamish players lose their lunch are, actually, created by the very foods you might eat during lunch," said Bethesda Softworks' Matt Grandstaff. "On a recent trip to Tango Gameworks, the sound team had the Bethesda Underground team (myself included) track down items to create heinous sound effects for the game."
Hungry yet?
Sure, not all of those food items were requested by sound designer Masahiro Izumi, but he sure does make them work. Or maybe he just really likes to eat. I actually don't know which I found more disturbing: the fact that he ate all of this food, or how he was actually eating it.
The Evil Within is due out on October 14 for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
