Later this year, the Xbox One will be getting a new feature — the ability to record live television in order to watch it later. The announcement of DVR coming to the Xbox One came alongside the announcement that the Winows Media Center will not be coming to Windows 10.
The Windows Media Center (WMC) was used to play media from a computer to a television, but it seems as though not enough people were using it to keep it. The people that did use WMC used it to watch TV shows from their PC in the living room.
Of course, Microsoft cannot simply remove the feature without offering something of equal value. According to unnamed sources and blogger Paul Thorrott the exchange for WMC is DVR on the Xbox One:
"Microsoft’s solution for this need will apparently be the Xbox One, though the console currently only provides live TV watching, but not recording. My sources tell me that will change, and most probably this year, to include TV recording."
The console already has the ebility to DVR gameplay, so it shouldn't be too hard to extend that feature to TV shows — right? Of course, this is a feature that cable companies have offered for a while now.
