Your favorite comic books come to Kindle for the first time

Amazon expands comiXology support onto Kindle devices this week.

As the MCU continues to expand it only makes sense that it will continue to draw in new fans who will have never heard of Ant-Man before July 17th, people who will understand the basic mythos of The Avengers but had no idea Black Widow was Russian before Whedon mentioned it. Not being familiar with the nuances, in-jokes and motivations of new favorite characters is daunting when you’re staring down the barrel of over 75 years of established lore, like Marvel hosts. Collecting is an expensive hobby and good luck finding a lot of major story arcs that were either never compiled into trade paperback form or were and then later fell out of print.

It gotten a lot easier now that Marvel made a huge amount of their library available via Amazon owned comiXology. It’s about to get even easier now that they’ve just announced the service will now be available via Kindle. Single issues are now available for purchase as well as trades and graphic novels.

In an interview, CEO of comiXology, David Steinberger explained, “Marvel, comiXology and Amazon are committed to bringing Marvel’s amazing stories to current and future Marvel fans across the globe,” said David Steinberger, CEO of comiXology. “And this historic extension of our relationship with the expansion of Marvel’s single issues to Amazon’s Kindle platform is an enormous opportunity to reach more fans.”

This is an awesome opportunity for fans to not only support the source material for their favorite movies, but to also expose themselves to some wonderful writers and artists who have inspired those very movies to exist. Time to catch up on your summer reading before Ant-Man drops next month.
