Shortly after Disney’s Maker Studios terminated its relationship with the game streaming YouTuber PewDiePie over his “inappropriate” ‘Death to all Jews’ video, YouTube decided to pull the plug on the YouTuber as well.
So, what does YouTube cutting ties with PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, really mean? Well, the second season of Kjellberg’s reality show ‘Scare PewDiePie’ and has removed his channel from the premium advertising program.
“We’ve decided to cancel the release of ‘Scare PewDiePie’ season 2 and we’re removing the PewDiePie channel from Google Preferred,” said a YouTube spokesperson. While season 2 has been canceled, 10 episodes of the first season will still be available on YouTube Red, which costs $10 per month.
Additionally, nine reportedly anti-Semitic videos have had the advertisements pulled for violating YouTube’s policies. Kjellberg’s ‘Death to all Jews’ videos has also been removed from the channel, however, it is unclear if that was a move made by Kjellberg or YouTube.
Around 53 million people subscribe to PewDiePie’s YouTube channel, which means that Kjellberg will not likely suffer too many losses in income from the ordeal and will probably carry on as he always has. Since hitting 50 million subscribers, Kjellberg has been attracting the limelight with his trolls which have been consistently looking to push the envelope.
