YouTube to do away with unskippable 30-second ads in 2018

YouTube enthusiasts rejoice! A time without unskippable 30-second ads on YouTube is upon us. Google has announced that unskippable 30-second ads will no longer appear before videos in 2018. Instead, we will be treated to different ads.

“We’re committed to providing a better ads experience for users online. As part of that, we’ve decided to stop supporting 30-second unskippable ads as of 2018 and focus instead on formats that work well for both users and advertisers,” said Google in a statement to Campaign (further confirmed by The Verge).

The unskippable 30-second ad will more than likely be replaced with 15 to 20-second ads, as well as the longer ads that become skippable after six seconds. We still have to wait until next year to get rid of those 30-second ads, but at least there's a light at the end of the tunnel for avid YouTube users.
