Zelda BOTW prequel Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity announced

Nintendo has unveiled Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. The action-oriented Musou spin-off will be a prequel to Zelda: Breath of the Wild and take place 100 years before the events of the game. Check out the announcement trailer here!

The winning formula of mixing the beloved Zelda franchise with the long-lasting action-brawler Dynasty Warrior series is getting a sequel. Once again developed by Keo Tecmo, this is the second Hyrule Warriors title on the Nintendo Switch. But this time, it looks to become a must-play for every Zelda fan.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will tell the tale that led to the events of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Specifically, by taking place 100 years before BOTW, players will experience the setup of BOTW first-hand. This pretty much makes Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity a necessary playthrough not only for Musou fans but Zelda fans in general.

Join the struggle that brought Hyrule to its knees. Learn more about Zelda, the four Champions, the King of Hyrule and more through dramatic cutscenes as they try to save the kingdom from Calamity. Even if you’re not that into Musou games, there really isn’t much else for Zelda fans to look forward to. While Zelda: Breath of the Wild is getting a direct sequel, things have gotten pretty much radio silent ever since the announcement last year.

Since the game is a BOTW prequel, it also adopts the glorious vibrant, and vivid art style of it. Not to speak of characters you met in it! And in terms of big exclusive releases for the rest of the year on the Nintendo Switch, it also lacks a certain oomph. Under these circumstances, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is automatically poised to become the next big game to get for Nintendo fans.
