The popular Zero Escape series will make its next appearance in Los Angeles as a real-life escape room challenge.
Real Zero Escape: Trust on Trial will let fans take on the same style of locked room puzzles seen in both 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward. The event will be organized by Japanese event studio SCRAP, in collaboration with developer Spike Chunsoft and publisher Aksys Games.
Real Zero Escape will open its doors April 15 in SCRAP’s LA location in Little Tokyo. The event’s initial run will last “several months,” SCRAP said in its FAQ, adding that, if successful, it may be extended and brought to additional locations.
Although clearly targeted at fans of the visual novels, Real Zero Escape remains open to newcomers. “Don’t worry if you haven’t played the game, no prior knowledge or special knowledge is needed to play,” SCRAP said.
The organizer also addressed the fears of the claustrophobic, confirming that even unsuccessful escapees will be allowed to leave when their time is up. It’s about as approachable as being locked in a room can get. You can even cosplay while you’re there, though SCRAP recommends dressing comfortably.
Tickets for Real Zero Escape go on sale Monday, February 29. Prices have not yet been revealed.
