Zone of the Enders sequel canned due to failed HD Collection

Problems with the release of the Zone of the Enders HD Collection has disrupted development of a sequel.

Konami announced the collection, which bundles together the first two Zone of the Enders games, last year in March. Now problems with the upgraded HD performance (from 30 to 60 FPS) has led to plans to patch the PlayStation 3 version, according to GI.biz (via Siliconera). At this time, no fix is underway for the Xbox 360 version.

These issues have put the sequel dubbed "The Enders Project" — revealed last year in the prototyping phase — on hold indefinitely. Failure for the HD Collection to meet expectations has caused the development team to dismantle.

Producer Hideo Kojima wants to reassess the franchise before moving forward as well as gauge fans' interest in the prospect of a sequel.
