Nintendo Company Limited announced today that it has sold 13 million units of the Nintendo DS handheld worldwide. The figure includes updated sales from Europe, where Nintendo has sold 3.5 million Nintendo DS units.
North American Nintendo DS sales are at 4 million units and Japanese Nintendo DS sales are at 5 million units.
The 13 million figure updates the 10 million figure provided in the past by Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Marketing Perrin Kaplan. Despite competition from the Sony PSP, Nintendo’s handheld business continues to strive, with sales of the Game Boy Advance at 4.6 million units in North America alone during 2005.
Nintendo’s recently launched online service, the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection has also seen great success, with over a half million unique users connecting.
“At a time when some sectors of the video game industry are softening, Nintendo DS and the Game Boy Advance line remain shining stars because of their fun experiences and innovative game play. It’s important to note that these strong figures represent Nintendo hand-held units and games that consumers have purchased and are now enjoying at home or wherever they like to play,” stated Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Reginald Fils-Aime earlier this week.want to download this game but the option download does not appear.
