2013 is coming to a close. The year went by far too quickly, but that's good in some ways. For instance, it seemed like we didn't have to wait as long to get the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to release. With that in mind, we should look to the future. 2014 has a ton of games to look forward to, and if we use 2013 as an example, these games will be on us before we know it.
Be it new titles for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, or games to help the Wii U break out of its funk, here's 15 games that will make 2014 awesome…
Another game scheduled for a 2014 release date is Insomniac Games' Sunset Overdrive – one of the bright spots of Microsoft's E3 2013 press event. This isn't an apocalypse; it's an awesomepocalypse. Sunset Overdrive bleeds style. In a city overrun with mutants, players will overcome them with overpowered weapons, creativity and hyper agility – a way to traverse the city with wall-running, zip-lines and acrobatics. It's exclusive to the Xbox One, and I can't wait to learn more about this living world full of fast combat and humor.
I was forced to put Dark Souls 2 on this list. Don't get me wrong, Dark Souls is an amazing game that deserves to be here, but it's very punishing and unforgiving. However, all of my friends love it. Our editor Andrew Clouther calls himself the Dark Souls fairy because every Steam sale he offers to gift it to friends that haven't played it yet. And so, they're all looking forward to Dark Souls 2.
Releasing on March 11, 2014, you can expect for insane bosses, more advanced AI, and new challenges, all adding to the difficulty that the series is known for. In 2014, you should be prepared to die again, and again, and again…
On March 21, 2014, PlayStation 4 owners will be able to unleash their superhuman powers in a locked-down Seattle. The third entry in the inFAMOUS series, Second Son is an open-world action-adventure game set seven years after the ending of inFAMOUS 2. Seattle is under DUP, Department of Unified Protection, jurisdiction to protect the city against Conduits, labeled as bio-terrorists. You play as Delsin Rowe, a 24-year-old that just had his Conduit powers awoken. He uses a chain wrapped around his arm as a melee weapon, which will be used in conjunction with his other powers. It's hard to imagine the inFAMOUS games getting better, but Second Son definitely looks to be taking that next step.
Rapid action and parkour-style wall running, hijacking titans (mechs) and a war-torn frontier is the core of Titanfall's gameplay and essentially Titanfall in a nutshell. This will be the first true next-gen first-person shooter when it releases on March 11, 2014 for PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Crafted by some of the key designers behind the Call of Duty franchise, you can sure as hell bet there's going to be a ton of action and crazy set-pieces. Oh, and it's all online multiplayer-only matches.
It's a sci-fi Borderlands-esque game from the creators of Halo. Bungie's Destiny lets you create a character, customize the way you look and fight, and explore the remains of our solar system. Fight enemies on our Moon, Venus, Mars and an abandoned Earth as the Hunter, Titan or Warlock. There are MMO elements to the game, as it's referred to as a “shared-world shooter” with on-the-fly matchmaking. I can't wait to see what Bungie brings us, and I know that a lot of gamers feel the same way. Destiny releases on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 9, 2014.
